Ripping Groms - St Clair
Stopped by St Clair over lunchtime to find nobody out in the water. Then just as a big set came through a station wagon pulled up filled with three kids and surfboards plus of course adult driving. They flew out of the car and started frothing over the massive set, and bounced so fast into their wetties and raced down to fill their stoke.
Surfers are Ben Bennet Jae Kilgour and Geordi Dearns.

Morning Misadventure
I love setting the alarm for 6am, not. But all packed up by 6.45 and out the door with enthuseasium fired by Swell Map's prediction of a 1 metre north east swell at Karitane, not.
Low tide at Karitane revealed a gentle 20 cm wave peeling round the point into the bay. A scenic drive around seacliff to Warrington, and the remnants of a sunrise trying to push through the low cloud cover on the horizon graced a few shots at Warrington Beach at the point, and then back into town to check out St Clair which was just as abysmal.

Gorgeous light this morning, up early to get my daughter organised for her school camp this week, so after I dropped her off to school with her camp gear in backpack and home-made scroggin & shot down to the St beaches to capture the glow...

Side Shore Blackhead
A strong north east wind blowing through Dunnos today made for a nice side shore at Blackhead, with lefts and rights in the 2-3 foot range. About 15 out in the water. Unfortunately Nat Parsons was just leaving when I got there, but snatched two good shots of him on his last two waves (him in the red wettie).
The Gold Coast Yesterday
I wish it was me taking these, look at the guys wearing board shorts still !! They were sent to me by my sister who lives there. I was pretty blown away with what she got as it was her fist shoot just on surfers and waves. Well by saying first time out shooting surf images, she is actually a professional photographer, but you need an eye for what to shoot for surf * waves to sis* awesome job.

A couple more shots for today
Hard to take good pics when the waves are below average, but heres a couple more,... also one of St Clair, I haven't seen the tide so low in ages!!
I got my new Lens!
Waiting for me when I woke up this morning was my new lens! I have been waiting for this for 6 weeks, and she finally arrived. A Zuiko ED 2.8-3.5 50-200 digital lens (pic is it sitting next to my old one). Went out to brighton to christen her, but had to stop by Blackhead to take the first shot though.
Pics are at Brighton.. not the best waves there today, and with the resolution drop-down, and saving files for web, the shots are not as crisp and detailed as they are on screen.. but still good, I love the lens! everything is so bright and crisp, also being able to shoot with a higher shutter speed I can freeze the foam much crisper.

Stay dry today
Drizzly rain, still as though. Looking from my kitchen window the two St beaches are looking a bit broken and messy. Enjoy your day off Jono :0)
Got busy last night and listed a pile of artworks on trademe CLICK THRU HERE I am offering a couple of $1 reserve Surf Artworks, small but detailed and worth a bid!!??
Yeah.. blatant self promotion, but I gotta pay the bills.

Missing out on anything?
St Clair at 9am this morning, some solid sets coming through 2-3 foot, with the occasional bigger set seen in the pic with the longboarder. A beach full of learner surfers venturing out to the whitewash from the Esplanade, you can see the Surf Life Saving Club, and the ramp to the beach.

No Chickens at St Kilda
Was all set for a day painting, when I looked out my Kitchen window and saw massive rooster tails down at St Kilda, so naturally jumped in car and shot down to John Wilson Drive and shot a few of these from the car. Not as spectacular from there but there were big sets pushing through every 10-11 mins.
St Clair has picked up a bit from yesterday too with two in the water. One guy out surfing at St Kilda, never saw him catch anything, waves were closing out closer to shore.
Got a text and apparantly Brighton and Blackhead was crap.
