2008 Oneill Cold Water Classic Kaikoura from Nic Reeves on Vimeo.

(original upload to the blog of this video yesterday was not in sync with the music and the stills streamed instead of displaying for 2 seconds, this is the fixed version)
A crew from Dunedin travel up for the 3 day surfing event, the 2008 Oneill cold water classic held near Kaikoura New Zealand. Music: Mungo by The Dark Beaks

This is the Surf Video that I was going to enter in the Surf Film Festival last year, but just never got around to making it short enough.

South Islands 2009

I didn't make it to St Clair for the first two days of the comp, but I did stay the whole day for the 3rd day Sunday.
It was cold, the waves were crap and it was cold. (top photo makes it look better than it actually was) Later on in the arvo it got colder, so hard to get decent photos when the surf is crud & raining on and off between bitterly cold winds.
I stayed to watch my friends compete and shot a few photos in between.
A few below:

Congrats to the winners, place-getters, and all competitors.
Thanks to South Coast Boardriders for hosting it for another year.

::VID :: SISA tagteam Challenge 2009

SISA Tagteam Challenge 2009 from Nic Reeves on Vimeo.

Held on the 27th of June 2009 at North New Brighton.
Filmed on a Canon HV30 with a drink bottle as a tripod, sorry about the shakes.

From the SISA website:
article by Haydo.

Northside Boardriders have won the South Island Tag team event for the second year in a row.

Northside showed too much class with South Island open champ Hayden Brain, Leilani Brain, Mike Oakley, groms Taylor Oneill and Sam Courtney all catching there 2-3 waves in the allocated time.
In small 2ft close outs Northside finished with 30 seconds to go to get the 5 point bonus and edge out the combined Dunedin team into 2nd. North Wai 3rd just beating the tubular belles team in 4th- just.
Northside took the $250 cash for a new ping-pong table, bragging rights and may of impressed there soon-to-be major sponsor (?) with another top result.

SISA tag team event

Saturday at noon on the 27th June, the SISA tag team event was held at North New brighton.
5 teams entered.. I don't know the results, but Nic Warrens team wasn't last, and the combined Dunedin team was third. Winning team took $250 cash.

I didn't take my camera up to Christchurch as it is not working, I took the photos above with my video camera. I have a little video I am editing for the tag team event, which should be up in the next few days.
Apologies for the sparse photos and posts lately, as I said, my camera is not working, and I'm trying to sort out how I'm going to get it fixed if at all, it seems the shutter has gone in it.

Cold Water Classic - Kaikoura 2009 Day 1 part1

Kim, Helena, Jean and myself left on the Thursday morning with more gear packed into Kims' stationwagon than a sardine can could fit under pressure. The rest of the Dunedin Crew.. Hayley, Tash, Homer and Jamie in a 4WD.. Jono, leroy, Jimi and Tom in Jono's stationwagon.. Andy, Nathan and Chris in another car, Steve & Ben in another and finally MB and Geordi. Again a good showing of support for the last SISA event of the year from the Otago Surf Clubs.

Above: Friday morning at Meatworks, a clean green set peaks out back. Homers' truck on left with the FCS tent which was a godsend all weekend with protection from the sun, rain and wind. Below left: rashies all laid out ready for the first Open mans' heats ... red flag ready to drop as the sun rose to a crisp but clear morning. Right and Below: The first few heats of the day ran as the surf picked up and the sun made for some stunning light.

Top Right: Nash Robertson. Below, more images from the Open heats round 1. Below Left: Levi O'Connor, Right: Dave Melville ?

Above: an empty in the comp area. Below Left: Andy Sutherland, Right and Below: unknown

Above Left: Nathan Lungley, Right: Jamie Civil
Below: Freesurfing down the beach, and a shot from there towards the comp area.
