please end this Huey

all I can say is.. I am stranded at home.. nothing to do but paint, and I want to be warm, and sit outside and bake in the warm summer sun.
Today dished up yet another day of cold grey, wet, dull weather with the persistent south swell.. I snapped three pics at St Clair at 4pm when I went down to get some milk .

Oh and the bonus of the day was that two cakes of cool water surf wax arrived for me for my new board. Thanks Riki, and man of your word.. (although it was new 6 months ago ;0)

Anything but Dunedin :: RETRO ::

Sad miserable dull COLD and GREY and DULL Dunedin weather this week, yep the sun shone today, and I got out to Blackhead to take some mpegs of the swell there, but lost it all after having to reformat the new SD card for my new camera.
So since I haven't really put anything up for three days bacause I have been painting a new surf style series this week.. here are some retro shots from this year earlier..

small clean cold .. and a whale

This morning at St Clair, with a Southern Right Whale 300metres out back surfacing and blowing while a bodyboarder and a longboarder shared some nice clean peeling waves. Damn cold, but sunny and no wind.

And a bit later on in the avo around 4pm on my way to lerckies to get some bacon ( Caitlin's going to make bacon and egg pir for tea.. yum ) a coupla shots of the tiny swell being absorbed by about a dozen out on the inside.

Sand at St Clair back in the 90's !!!

Was going through one of my favourite books today,
St Clair - A Residents History by Barbara Newton.
. just an amazing book outlining the settlement of the St Clair area, lots of old pics, history, culture, business, personalities. highly recommend getting a copy, I think they sell them at the St Clair four square Forbury Rd, well thats where I got this one last year. And its not a commissioned plug for the author, just a need to honour the source.. because I have scanned the pic above from it for my blog post today to show the massive difference in sand/sea/levels.. also the old sea wall.. just imagine getting a 4x4 with a trailer down that end of the beach now!!!

Stripped

yeah it happens on and off, the sand gets stripped away and then washed back in, but it's just fascinating all the same. Here are two shots taken .. 11 days apart.... looking towards the same set of steps.
