Sweet, my mad skills have finally made it onto the phoam website (even if it was only for a couple seconds of kooky ass-wiggling).

hey cool!! but now you're gonna keep me guessing which one you were!!! come on spill, and I'll spill about who it really was at that spot.

I'm embarrassed to say, but I'm the one who not only took off in front of two other people, but then kooked the wave to boot. I hang my head in shame.

We really should get together sometime. I'd like to meet you and surfscab.

now the weird thing is when you said you got a few seconds 'exposure' I instantly thought of the three way drop in, and 'you' looking back as the others spilled it.. he he yeah for sure, we;d love to meet you.. flick me an email nic@phoam.co.nz , and we can arrange to meet somewhere with paper bags on our heads :0)

this convo leads me to ask - whats the go on all the "rules" out there?

basically 'The person closest to the breaking shoulder of a wave (steepest part) has the right of way.' Dont paddle out through the lineup, but around the break, saves getting hit by another surfer and ruining their wave. Dont snake anyone, thats paddling inside someone trying to catch a wave. Be verbal.. friendly reminder of a shout like "Mine" or "Going right" or "Going left" helps clarify the situation.

okay so what happens if you are paddling around the break, like through a rip, all nice and good and a bigger set comes as you paddle out, then someone takes off heading directly toward you into the channel... you are right in the way of their ride but haven't time to paddle towards the broken stuff...????

pretty much if that happens, and you cant get out of the way, its the surfer on the wave's responsibility to not run you over, as they have more control and can move and respond faster than someone lying on their board paddling. ie: they bale.

Ok cheers Nic! any advice as far as ettiquette goes is much appreciated!

I'm no expert, but always good at keeping out of the way and not getting run over, my best trick is to surf where nobody is out.. this royal advice comes to you from the queen of kook' :0)
