Blackhead at Sunset

Manic painting sessions the last few days, so no surf shots happening. But drove through Blackhead around 4.30pm, dropping my girls off to their nanas for a feed and caught the setting sun brushing the foam with a vivid glow, still pretty stormy at high tide but a few semi discernable peelers... also a cool shot ( I thought) of the last light on the powerlines there.

ta :0) and yes its cold at the mo, but Dunedin never lost any power, actually we never even got any snow! except for a light dusting on flagstaff in the outer hills of Dunedin. Hmm ironic I got a shot of powerlines yesterday :0) you guys got your power sorted out there yet?

Yea $100 million lost but its sorted now :) only lost it for a day so wasnt a problem...just like Southerns to know that Aucklanders dnt choose what they show on TV and i feel for the ones without power in sub zero temps alot more than the businesses that lost some money ;)

What I dont get is how can businesses have lost money, if you cant buy something one day and you need it then you buy it the following day anyway so no loss other than an extra busy tuesday unless your talking about resturants and bakeries etc. I do not feel sorry for businesses in the slightest, bunch of greedy whinging gits. Rant over :) I had a day off and surfed Takapuna, maybe thats what these guys should have done, and still got a Macciatto at Starbucks haha god bless Auckland :-)

All I can assume Adam is they are projecting potential losses of sales and also wages that needed to be paid for sent home workers? What I don't get is that only one power supply line serves a greater part of Auckland, one would think that there were at least one backup line for each feed?

I was surprised that a major city doesnt have an infrastructure to deal with a power disruption. After all it is not uncomon hear so you would have thought someone would have done something about it. On the note of power, the ASB tower in the city had generators put in after the power problems in the 90's. A bean counter soon realised that is was actually cheaper to continue using the generators than get the power from the national grid (more like a bit of no 8 wire it seems) and to this day they still run on those generators. I thought hydro power was supposed to be cheaper? From this example it seems that the power companies are ripping people off then!
